This rapid growth in an ageing population presents China with a demographic challenge that looks to reshape traditional norms of the how the family takes care of the elderly in a new modern China. At the same time, China’s evolving middle class demands higher quality services, world class medical technology and experienced health care workers to care for the aged.. By 2020, the Central Government aims to provide more aged care beds and a workforce of 10 million aged care workers.
