Any established manager knows that he or she should always have an exit strategy. In instances of a promotion or a new position, a manager or business owner needs to have a plan in place for his or her departure—including a solid suggestion for someone to fill the role. And that means one needs to be preparing his/her employees for leadership now. Regardless of their position or department, the people in your organization have the potential, with the right coaching, to become better leaders. But developing your employees into leaders isn’t an instantaneous shift. Sometimes, qualified employees, although exceptional at their current jobs, are not yet prepared to assume a leadership position. Our guest in this episode has spent more than 9,000 hours speaking, coaching and sharing his passion for life with a wide variety of people of diverse ages, professions, and cultures: from business leaders in New York to indigenous people in the Amazon of Venezuela, from Italian bankers to American farmers, from Austin software engineers to Russian oilmen. Kristian Jaloway, founder and CEO of Jaloway Leadership Consulting (JLC) believes that no business can thrive without a healthy culture, and his experience abroad taught him how to get beyond the superficial to go to the heart of what makes people tick. In this episode Kristian gives us tips on how to train your employees to be leaders, encourage your employees to own up to their responsibilities and take an active role in growing your company.
