Throwing your back out sucks, especially when you are on deployment. On this episode of Cigars and Sea Stories, Bennett Tanton and Michael J. Penney are sharing funny moments of experiencing god awful pain. Mike recently through his back out doing a simple task. It’s left him laid up at the house, an invalid relying on his wife.

It only takes a little tweak sometimes to pop something out of place. Recurring injuries, old battle wounds, and the continued rigors of life add up, then POW! When it happens all you can do is hobble to the nearest spot that offers stability and wince in pain as you contemplate the next week of suffering you’re about to endure. When it happens down range it can be even worse.

“Motrin and water...change your socks.”, is the only comfort the corpsman provides.

It’s hard to get ice packs but they help. Light stretching and rolling out tight muscles afterward relieves the tension. These are a few of the techniques that the guys share on how they get through those arduous recoveries. Taking it slow is the difficult part. Diligence and discipline to correct the habits which led to the injury is the best way to combat future incident. Luckily nowadays the guys at Cigars and Sea Stories have less strenuous jobs. Still, the desk kills more people than life in the military. It’s an inactive sedentary lifestyle, which ultimately leads to future injuries. At least that’s why Mike’s fat ass is hobbling around the house right now.
