Another story we tell functions as a counterpoint to Jesus’ story—the American Dream. Let’s just confess that we are compelled by it, if only out of habit, and choose another core value to line us up with Jesus—Simplicity. Core values are big decisions that make a bunch of smaller decisions easier to make. From investments to grocery bills, if we strive for simplicity we will train ourselves to have clean, generous eyes that can see the world how Jesus tells us it is in the parable—abundant and free.
