In part 1 of this episode, we look at where emotional and lesser evil voting began and why this way of thinking is really bad.
By appealing to the negative side of people, both parties "scare" us into voting for them. They BOTH make the argument that if you don't show up to vote, it's a vote for the other person - thereby, you feel forced to vote on emotion rather than deciding based on your own values and morals.
I also bring up a VERY controversial topic and use it as an example of how warped our society has become - but you'll have to listen to find out!
What's the point of Third Parties?Third parties exist for a great reason, unfortunately, that reason is also their detriment. However, the major parties are the reason for such failure and we can do something about it - but it's going to take a lot of work on our part!
This Week's Military and American ObservancesNo significant observances this week but some cool history for you:
This is the week the Lewis and Clark Expedition began when it departed from St. Charles, Missouri on May 22nd, 1804 to explore the land acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. Thirty nine years later to the day, the first wagon train left Independence Missouri in the “Great Emigration” to travel what became known as the Oregon Trail.
We will be ending Military Appreciation month with Memorial Day. While you are out enjoying your long weekend, take a moment of silence before your meals to appreciate what others so richly sacrificed in protection of the freedoms we take for granted every day. Remember the more than 1.2 million military members who have given their lives in service and defense of our great nation. I encourage you to take part in local activities run by your cities and towns. Experience the ceremonies which honor our fallen but will never absolve us of our duty to be grateful.
