TRANSCRIPT:
Hello everyone, my name is Shivika, and you are listening to the English ClAIRSTONE Podcast, where you can build the cornerstone of your English vocabulary! For all the new listeners, welcome to the community, and for our regulars, hello again! Before we start, I will remind you that we upload new episodes twice a week and there are transcripts for each podcast episode in English, Arabic, and Spanish at our website projectclair.org, so go check that out if you want to follow along!

Today we will be looking at the words adjust and Job

Adjust is spelled as A-D-J-U-S-T. This word is a verb which means that it can change a little depending on the tense of the sentence. Adjust can mean to change anything so it is more comfortable for all or to set right an error or situation. Adjust can be used in a sentence as “The police have a specific way of adjusting conflicts”. This sentence is using adjust to say resolving conflicts which makes resolve a synonym for adjust. Synonyms for adjust can also be rectifying an error or settling arguments. Another example of adjust can be “The editor adjusted the error in the transcript”.

Adjust also means a person finding the balance between what they want and what they have to compromise. For example, “Newly married couples have to adjust into their lifestyle with their partner”. This sentence means that the newly married couples have to find the balance in what they want and what they have to give to their partner for them both to be happy.

The next word is job which is spelled as J-O-B. A job can be a position where doing the work pays whether it be part-time or full time. An example in a sentence would be, ‘Annie got a job at Starbucks.’

A job also means a piece of work that has to be done by something or someone. A synonym for this definition is task. John was given the job of conveying the bad news to his wife. This sentence means that John had the task of telling the bad news to his wife.

Job also can be a duty of something or someone. A synonym for this is function. For example, it is the heart’s job to pump blood but you could also say that It is a heart’s function to pump blood.
