He did not hesitate to threaten people with prison if he came upon an unsightly house. The King himself was responsible for some of the most beautiful and most well-preserved buildings and areas in Copenhagen, some of which still remain today. Never had Denmark been greater than under the rule of Christian IV (1577 - 1648), who was an architect king and a libertine without equal.
