What is PixArk?

Pix Ark Describes itself on steam as a vast, wild world filled with vicious dinosaurs, magical creatures and endless adventure! To survive in this mysterious land, you must tame creatures both ferocious and cuddly, craft high tech and magical tools, and build your own base out of cubes.
With a robust character creator, an infinite number of voxel based maps and procedurally generated quests, your PixARK adventure will be completely unique. Team up with friends to form a tribe, or play on your own. Spend your time building a towering fortress or go on a quest in a sprawling cavern. Fly on the back of a dragon and smite your enemies with a magic wand, or ride a mighty T-Rex and blast your foes with a rocket launcher. In the world of PixARK, how you play is up to you – as long as you survive!

What specs do you need to run it?
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400/AMD FX-8320 or better
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB/AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or better
DirectX: Version 10
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 15 GB available space
Additional Notes: Requires broadband internet connection for multiplayer

Esme: I asked on Social Media: If you have been Pix Ark, let us know what you think so far!

Tim Barrett@AshTag1658 Loving it! But they could adjust the damage numbers a bit.. I just hit level 50 and still can’t kill any carnivores.

Yeah, I’m on a private server with some friends but a lot of the server setting buffs don’t seem to take effect (xp gains, harvesting, etc...) about the only server setting I’ve noticed working is the time of day.. but we haven’t fiddled with Dino damage yet

I chalked up the lack of sliders to early access.. and we have a Nitrado server too.. we learned our lesson with Ark and have only played on our own private servers ever since Scorched Earth came out

Darkon Vail@DarkonVail
I've enjoyed it so far, would like to see a dedicated server download on Steam though. My biggest complaint is the movement feels horrible. Needs to be closer to minecraft in jumping/moving ability.

Don't Explore Alone Community Event!

Hello Explorers!
PixARK released into Early Access last week with a bang, and we’d like to thank everyone for the massive support that we’ve gotten since then. Now that all of our Explorers have been able to get out into the ARK, we feel it’s time for our very first PixARK Community Event! We’ll be having these events regularly, and each event will have different requirements for participation.
For this event, we’re looking for Explorers to show us the most daring adventure they’ve had, with their closest portable friend! Submit a screenshot or GIF of your Explorer in either a dangerous or scenic location with a shoulder tame that is either keeping your company or providing moral support. All submissions should be sent to:
Please include your *full* server name, the region and the number if you’re on an official server, as well as a link to your Steam profile along with your submission.
Submissions Timeline
This community event will start today, Thursday, 4/5, and go until Friday, 4/13.
Three winners will be chosen by the PixARK Community Team, and one winner will be chosen by the community!
A community vote will be held on Steam Monday, 4/16.
All four winners will be announced on Tuesday, 4/17 on Steam.
Each winner will be provided an additional PixARK Steam Game Key!
We’re really excited to see all of the amazing locations, and daring situations that each Explorer has found themselves in recently. Any additional questions or concerns about the event can be sent to the same submissions email posted above! Good luck Explorers!

Explorer's Guide: PixARK Creatures #1
Hello Explorers, and welcome to the Explorer’s Guide to Pixark Creatures #1!
Let’s take a look at some of the creatures you will be facing in the world of PixARK.
The Dodo can be found in Novice Prairies and Grasslands. These silly birds don’t offer much in the form of defense or offense. It’s almost as though they were designed for beginner Explorers in mind…

Zombies would like nothing more than to feast on Explorer brains. Fortunately, some basic weapons and armor will allow you to handle these foes. However, be warned: they can only be found in the Dark Forest zone, which harbors even more danger than just the undead.

Move over lions; the Raptor is the king of the jungle in PixARK! Raptors are fast, hard-hitting, and relentless. You had better hope you have a combination of ranged firepower and armor if you want to survive an attack by just one of these predators.

Explorer’s Guide: PixARK Creatures #2
Hello Explorers, and welcome to Explorer’s Guide to Pixark Creatures #2!
Today were taking a look at some of the desert creatures you’ll encounter in PixARK
Terror Bird
The Terror Bird is a fast, aggressive creature with a ferocious bite. You can try to run, but chances are you won't get far. The Terror Birds wings may not seem mighty, but it allows this bird of prey to leap longer distances than one might think. This makes the Terror Bird a good tame for scouting if you can capture one.

Dung Beetle
Dung beetles are small but deadly. Once they’ve noticed you they will begin to use their circling tactic and then strike. If a Dung Beetle bites you too many times your torpor will increase. If it is raised too high, it will leave you in an unconscious state! Be careful if you fight a Dung Beetle, these nasty bugs will alert nearby beetles causing a swarm before you can react.

Emperor Scorpion
Like the Terror Bird, the Emperor Scorpion is also an aggressive creature. They may not have the speed of a Terror Bird, but they are much harder to kill in combat. Watch out for their deadly pinchers and stinger! If hit to many times, you will be poisoned and your torpor will slowly increase which will leave you in an unconscious state.
The desert climate can be a super scorcher, so be sure to stay hydrated out there! Keep an eye out for more Explorers Guide to PixARK articles.
The Crews initial thoughts!

Is it worth the 20$?

Felloon: it's definitely worth $20… I'll use the same analogy we always use ; what do you spend to go out to the movie theater?, and on average you will be there for 2 hours ? Well according to steam I only have 86 hours on the game so with some rough calculations you could say that I've only spent about 50 cents for 2 hours of entertainment. I would say that qualifies as “worth” $20…

If I could get away with 50 cents for a movie I would do that more often..

Luminin: Minecraft, ARK and Dark n’ Light had a baby, you’ve got the best of all three!... and the worst of all three. I think it is worth the promotional $19.99 but maybe not the full $24.99 yet. From a regular play perspective, it’s pretty good. But from an admin or server owner perspective, it’s kinda a pain that can lead to nightmares. (Felloon: I’ve mentioned a few times in our group that it kind of plays like DnL with Ark elements)

Criikette: This game kept me sane this week. Crazy busy week at work and this simple game was just what I needed. Definitely. I can only imagine that they’ll steal more stuff from Minecraft as time goes on. I can’t wait for stuff akin to redstone circuits.

Blue: It’s Fun, I've had a lot of rough learning experiences as time has gone on. I’ve rebuilt three times now, and retamed everything several times due to little accidents. Due to the game mechanics its be super easy to restart unlike normal ark. Definitely worth $20!

Goon - Being an early access game, i have to say it was well worth the money, it’s a lot further along than a lot of early access games that I have played. It glitches and things need balancing, but it is a blast to play.

I agree with Goon, I was pleasantly surprised with how playable the game actually is . I did not think I was going to enjoy the block Versions of the dinos I know and love on Ark, but I do! There are so many new creatures in Pix Ark in addition to some of our favorites that it keeps everything fresh. Definitely worth the $24.99 at this point.

What are your favorite parts of the game so far?

Luminin: CRR + Minecraftian elements makes for a ton of fun. It’s very surprising to me to see just how many CRR members have never played Minecraft. In my opinion, Minecraft is to survival games what WoW is to MMO’s.

Criikette: Fast tames + big bad dinos means don’t get attached to your friends. I love the dino structures (dodo pen, phiomia hut, gigantopethicus drawbridge, raptor generator). It feels weird mining and not having to worry about critters as much though. Best of all: No Creepers. Worst of all: Damn sauropods.

Blue: mining has been fun, doing the little ruins has been fun, taming is super simple I’ve enjoyed that, and the different options for trapping dinos has been awesome.

Felloon: I have never played minecraft, i spend a lot of time mining. My entire base was built underground. Getting used to this part of the game has held my attentions for a few days now, but the pull of what else is out that has overcome me and now I’m out and about looking for all the ruins and different dinos and biomes.

Goon - while taming and mining is a nice past time, i have to say that the part i find find most enjoyable is the fact that i can actually dig down or build up the ground, that includes being able to have the water spread as you dig around it, also i like that the dodos cry when you hit them. It is also nice that when you die you keep whatever is on your action bar..

GAH! I love the customization of our Characters. I love the options for quests in the game. I love that the maps are all different because they are procedurally generated. I love that it is a game I can play on my laptop that it not meant for gaming. I love that there are already decorations and stuff we can add to our homes etc where we are used to having to use mods to get cool stuff. I had never played Minecraft, so I love the mining and building and the water physics and realizing that I will be able to do some pretty fantastic things with building etc. I love that if I want tame something or run from something I can just make a box out of dirt and git it done. I love how some items we can pick up already :)

What Parts of the game do you feel needs to have more TLC or added or removed?

Luminin: TOO MANY CHARACTERS WTF?!?!? NOOO. And admin/server commands/settings.

Criikette: Ability to move water blocks. And make “unlimited” water blocks. We were able to get some really interesting farm designs in minecraft that I want to see built here. Guess it can still be done with taps. Will just need to play around with it.

Water blocks CAN be spawned in, but CAN’T be placed. ~Lum

Blue: I agree with Criikette on the water thing it’s super annoying when you go to make clay in a pond or water spot and it gets messed up when you pick the clay up harvest. Dino balance is a big one I’ve lost all my tame’s to literally a single Spirit wolf after it dropped into my base. I’ve also had a lvl 5 sauropod (bronto) destroy a lvl 100 sumthing Spirit wolf which I thought would be cake….

Goon - i’d would like to be a little tougher, so squishy in the game, and I like to be able to unclaim dinos

Felloon: it feels like when I level up my melee stat, however that translates into the game, is under represented. Now that we have damage numbers up on our server I can see how much larger the critical hits are vs the normal damage on dinos and it feels like the crit chance is higher for wild dinos vs tame.

The toxic trolling that can be done on PVE is UTTERLY RIDICULOUS.

I HATE THE SOIL MARKING SYSTEM. I want it out of the PVE world. I can see where it would have its place perhaps in PVP, but it is sooo dumb to have it on PVE.

It feels very claustrophobic to me. It is like forcing players to do quests to protect their buildings , and the areas each marker protects is a joke. I have yet to think of why they even need to exist at all. I feel like they could be used for large tribes that have the manpower to keep them fueled to allow them to take over additional area to fit their community, but I feel like it is ridiculous in its current state.

Officials servers are already a lag fest for me in the rally zones.

Brontos Should Not be the new gigas or titanos…..tribe log isnt working…

Each Host can share some tips for new players. Try keeping your section to five minutes for each host.

Luminin: In Minecraft you learn a few nono’s that many are learning now in PixArk, such as never dig straight down/up and be wary about what you HEAR while mining. Listen for water, lava MOBS. If you hear a creature walking around, chances are you’re about to break into an underground cavern and could fall to your death.

Blue: Building up against Mountains is a pain. If your going to build up against a mountain side make sure your walls aka gates are high enough to block critters from jumping into your base. Try going to the top of the mountains cliff and jumping off to see if you can fly into your base cause guess what if you can do it so can they.

Goon - When running stone pipes, if possible enclose them with foundations walls and ceilings, sauropods (bronto) like to crush them, also watch out for the Crickettes, they do a lot of damage.

Felloon: Build your base underground to keep away from sauropod damage. Some creatures will not attack you while your standing on normal dirt vs magic dirt or cursed soil. I have built some 8x8 or 10x10 “save zones” in the magic forests out of dirt.

Blocking halls to kill schtuff Crafting stations have a “pull from container” radius to them. It will pull from boxes but not from smelters/m&p. So plan your crafting house accordingly. Use a trike when collecting your crops. They get much more than you can get, plus crops and seed instead of just crops. Bonus: Trikes are great at wood collection. Plant trees to have easy access to wood. Trees have to have 1 square between them when planting them. However, you can plant seeds between them afterwards to maximize space. When crafting with stone, make sure you use Fine Stone. It costs 1 stone structure to make 1 fine stone structure, so it’s no more resources. But it also gives you bonus xp for crafting the Fine Stone. Bows give more torpor per hit than crossbows.

Esme:As a new player, Not all dinos / Creatures are created equal. Phiomias are easy kills like dodos. Low level raptors are no joke. A level 50 phiomia can be killed with an arrow to the head but a raptor will devour you before you get enough arrows into them to kill them.

Story time!

Share a tale that's happened to you and/or the crew in Pix Ark!

Keep entries around five minutes.

Criikette: Too many stories. Pe Lum!! Admin command destruction! (Apparently floors/walls/ceilings are not considered “structures”. So they cannot be claimed via admin command. However, they also do not get destroyed via admin command.)

Blue: So when we started up on Luminins server I decided that I wanted to start off in my own tribe because I wanted to learn the game and leveling and taming. Sometimes when your in a group and your new to a game unlocking things can lose its magic and you kinda feel like you have nothing to do because your tribe mates have already done it. I’ve had a lot of hard learning experiences due to this choice. My first base was imagine that at the base of the mountain, I had a nice area completely walled off with Beast Gates and thought I was safe so I logged off for the night. When I logged on the next day all my tames that were left out in the “courtyard” were gone and a spirit wolf was walking around. I figured that it had gotten over my walls from a little area next to my base So I added to the wall with some Rock Blocks thinking I was good. The next day i was standing in my courtyard minding my business I’d just tamed 2 trikes and 2 pteranodons a couple phiomas and dodo’s. Next thing I know a spirit wolf and a Gigantopithecus fall into my base and since tame’s are naturally on neutral as soon as I was hit everything went agro, and the Gigantopithecus proceeded to kill every tame I had. That was the point I realized I needed to double up my gates along the cliff to keep wild creatures from dropping by to say hello. I eventually had to start over again after I was attacked by a evil critter called the Criikette.

Goon- meeting esme
