Day 171 of the podcast, reading Psalms 56-62 NET, read along at:
This is day 171 of our journey.
Today we read 7 psalms of David.
As we remember the story of David's life, it becomes clear that being "a man after God's own heart" did NOT mean that he was a man free from troubles. Much of David's life was filled with conflict and peril. In these seven Psalms, we see the heart of a man beset by enemies...both from invading nations and even schemers within his own court. As we read through these heartfelt prayers to the Lord, you will see a common and recurring theme. David first expresses his dismay and cries out to the Lord for protection and justice but then the focus changes from petition to praise. The most encouraging part of these Psalms is David's confidence in God. He walked with the Lord and knew that Yahweh was (and is) the only true and just judge, a strong defender, mighty in power, and worthy to be praised. In the midst of his trials, he saw and worshiped a God who was bigger than his troubles.

I am determined, O God! I am determined!I will sing and praise you!
Then observers will say,“Yes indeed, the godly are rewarded! Yes indeed, there is a God who judges in the earth!”
They speak sinful words. So let them be trapped by their own prideand by the curses and lies they speak!
Deliver by your power and answer me, so that the ones you love may be safe.
May he reign forever before God!Decree that your loyal love and faithfulness should protect him.
He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended.
