Shane and Jeff talk about The Death Penalty, Social Media, Why Millennials are leaving the church, and discipleship Welcome to the digisciple.me podcast, my name is Jeff, the digital disciple, from digisciple.me. We have a great show for you; our guest today is author and Ordinary Radical, Shane Claiborne from the simple way community in Philedelphia. You can learn more about the simple way at www.simpleway.org, they do some great community work down there. We talk about a lot of interesting things (or at least interesting to me) like the death penalty and social media, why millennials are leaving the church and lots more. We'll get to all that in a minute. First, our show today is brought to you by... well, us! Digisciple.Me. We are a content driven ministry coaching service and our goal is to help you increase communication, improve the quality of the content your producing, and fighting burnout! If you listened to episode zero you will know that I am a sufferer of burnout and it's no fun, and there's stuff you can do to fight and prevent it. Essentially what we do is this: We are committed to helping churches, pastors, and ministry workers of all types develop and implement strategies to increase discipleship and experience community growth. We do this by sitting down with you, narrowing down your target audience or audiences and then come up with a content plan to reach those audiences based on current stats and trends. We then train you and your staff on how to effectively produce that content. It's simple, it's easy, you're going to wish you did it years ago. Head to our website www.digisciple.me. OK! I won't keep you any longer, here he is: Shane Claiborne. E-mail us, leave us a review on iTunes So that was my conversation with Shane Claiborne! It got me thinking about how we present ourselves as Christians to the world, and the world's view of us, like we were talking about in the interview, and 1 Peter 3:15 really stood out to me as relevant in this conversation 1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, I love this verse because it's really simple. Step 1. Revere Christ as Lord. And really think about what that means. Revere Jesus as your master. When he says jump you jump, when he says go you go. Revere him as Lord. Step 2: Always be prepared to give a testimony to the good work that God is doing or has done in your life. Testimonies don't always need to be your conversion story. And often I've found conversion stories tell how someone became a Christian instead of why someone became a Christian. Give a reason for the hope that you have. I know Jesus is Lord because there are just way too many instances of God moving in my life that are too coincidental to be coincidental! That even in my darkest moments I can still hear that faint whisper of Gods peace in the back of my head. Lastly, step 3: Do all of this with gentleness and respect. This can be the hard part, but you still have to do it. Treat the person you're speaking with as though they are a fellow human, God's magnificent creation! Because that's what they are. Don't mock or mistreat their current beliefs, simply shine a light onto the gospel and let the Holy Spirit take care of the rest. Ok! that's our show for today! Thank you for listening. If you want to help the show out go on iTunes and leave us a review, it helps get us ranked in the iTunes store so that more people are more likely to find us. It's not hard, just find our podcast, hit “5 stars” and write “This show is amazing!” Or... however you want to do it You can E-mail us at podcast@digisciple.me, you can find us on facebook and instagram @digisciple.me and of course, you can visit our website at www.digisciple.me. Thanks, God bless, tell your story, and we'll see you next time.
