Pietro Antonio LocatelliThis week on Diving Into Baroque we feature the life and work of the Italian composer and violin virtuoso Pietro Antonio Locatelli. Specifically we'll be Diving Into Op. 3 L'Arte del Violino - The Art of the Violin. This work consists of 12 concertos and we will hear 3 of them on this episode. The final concerto of the twelve, nicknamed "The Labyrinth" is notorious for its exceedingly difficult capricci. Locatelli wrote the following inscription beneath the first-movement capriccio: "Laberinto armonico: 'Facilis aditus; difficilis exitus.'" This can be translated to mean, "Harmonic Labyrinth: Easy to enter; difficult to escape!" It is a wonderous display of his brilliance and we'll feature it here. Playlist and Performance Credits:

Op. 3 No. 2 in C Major Performed By: Orchestra Da Camera Di Santa Cecilia & Rodolfo Bonucci

Op. 3 No. 8 in E Minor Performed By: Orchestra Da Camera Di Santa Cecilia & Rodolfo Bonucci

Op. 3 No. 12 (The Labyrinth) Performed By: Orchestra Da Camera Di Santa Cecilia & Rodolfo Bonucci
