Daniel Balki is a certified personal trainer, competitive bodybuilder, and long-time friend! Today we discuss his background in the fitness world, bodybuilding as a sport, dedicating time and motivation to training while still holding onto personal relationships, and the lessons you can learn from competing in shows.

Daniel wasn’t always into fitness, but he did always have bodybuilders around to influence his eventual passion of the sport. Listen now to find out about Daniel’s first show and how that experience made him realize just how important it is to be real with yourself and those that surround and support you. Bodybuilding can be a selfish sport, but Daniel has found a way to work hard at his passion without completely sacrificing his personal relationships. There will always be a give and a take, and you’ll always have to be unbalanced at certain points in your life - but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your friends and family.

In this episode we talk about…

  • Daniel’s background in the fitness and competition world.
  • Getting in shape the proper way, staying away from extreme diets.
  • Daniel’s experience in his first bodybuilding show.
  • The biggest lessons Daniel learned after competing in his first show.
  • Being real with yourself - we will always be our own worst critics, but we can just as easily fall victim to boosting ourselves up too much also.
  • Finding the balance of your bodybuilding dedication and respecting the lives of those family and friends surrounding you. It can be a selfish sport.

Powerful Quotes to Remember:

  • The influences of body building were always around me, and I really respected them - so I fell into body building that way.
  • The show made it real - you learn so much about yourself!
  • The people at the show were so supportive, everyone was just congratulating me for just being there.
  • Balance is important, but to be great at anything, there have to be periods where things are unbalanced.
  • Friends and family will be there to support you, but they don’t always necessarily understand where you are coming from.
