It’s Will. Let’s talk.

Let me get this right out of the way, immediately: I did not like this series. Cord and Caleb thought the final two episodes vindicated the 8 grueling hours prior to this. I think it’s Stockholm Syndrome. This was a terrible show. Here’s why:

I didn’t care for the characters. All of them–all of them–were two-faced and had some shit to work out in their personal lives. The only one that stayed true to his character was Giarlomo. Yes, you’re supposed to want character progression, but it seems like the only one that mattered was Lenny’s. Everyone else seemed to have an alter ego just to have an alter ego.

I didn’t care for the plot. What I had originally thought was going to be a Pope showing deviant behavior and we might have a show that sticks it to the Church turned out to be a soap opera love affair with the Church. It was long and drawn-out. It tried focusing on making this art rather than a watchable drama. I was so out of it.

I didn’t care for the payoff. Breaking Bad paid off. Sons of Anarchy paid off. Hell, even Jessica Jones paid off. This didn’t. Caleb and Cord thought it was great. They’re so fancy. I’m not fancy. This was dumb.

I will not be watching anything further in relation to this show. Caleb and Cord said as much (but to be fair, Caleb said he’d give a Season 2 Episode 1 a once-over to see who the new pope is–spoilers!). We’re moving on. Caleb and Cord gave this series a 7 (if memory serves) where I went with an ambiguous score of <5.

Next up: Movies. I get first go. They’re probably letting me go because I detested this show so much. We’re watching Frailty, starring Matthew McAlrightAlrightAlright. Join us next week for something we likely will all agree is better!

For fuck’s sake, review us on iTunes. Leave a comment below or on our Facebook page. Catch up on our other episodes of Dude Watches, including Seasons 1 and 2 of The Leftovers, here. Finally, hit us up if you have a television series or a movie (or maybe a genre of something) that we should check out. Or give us something to talk about. Give us a question. Send us an email. Hell, I might even give you Cord’s phone number if you ask nicely!
