The UK's second largest airport could lose two major airlines.
Virgin Atlantic and British Airways are both considering ending operations at Gatwick Airport.
UK correspondent Gavin Grey told Kate Hawkesby Virgin Atlantic is applying for emergency funding but is looking at cutting a third of its workforce.
He says it's showing the airline is toughing it out, but like many others, it needs help.
The restructuring of Virgin Atlantic's workforce will follow a week of brutal job losses across Britain's aviation industry.
British Airways has begun consulting on up to 12,000 redundancies, while RyanAir has said it plans to axe 3,000 jobs.
