Fair pay agreements are back on the political agenda.
The Green Party says the Covid-19 pandemic has shown just how much this country relies on essential workers, and that they should be paid a dignified wage.
Workplace relations spokesperson Jan Logie told Kate Hawkesby that they are focused on the essential workers such as supermarket workers, cleaners and security guards.
"I think we've all become pretty clear on how important they are."
She says that they are hoping this is a moment for a rest of thinking about the country's future.
Logie says that Australia and other countries that have similar agreements set a strong foundation for setting wages across industries.
"They are really valuable in creating sustainable business models, where the focus can be on productivity."
Logie rejected that the policy would lead to more strikes, with an OECD study finding that they work for countries who have them.
