Mockery by Sara L. Winston. Read by Geremy Dingle and mixed with lost magnetic recordings. Could this sweet, old wistful lady With the tired and wrinkled face And hands so worn and knotty With gait so void of grace. Could this aged little mother With hair as white as snow Have been a lovely daughter Not so long ago? Could she have been a baby, An infant in a crib? A child so bright and rosy Supping with a bib? Could she have know the thrills That come with dolls and toys, Pink dresses trimmed in frills And other blissful joys? Could she have felt delight In love’s awakening? The bitter nip and smite Of Cupid’s bow and string? Could she have been so dainty In dancing to the tunes Of a minuet so stately In stylish pantaloons? Could this charming maiden With such agile ease and grace Be this stooped old woman With the tired and wrinkled face. Now her children smile at her - They don’t think it true That they, some day, will look the same To their grandchildren too.
