With construction starting this year, the development consists of multiple towers, including a pair of 70- and 59-story residential towers atop an eight-level retail podium. The design by Cox Architecture features a pair of silvery skyscrapers with vertical bands, along with a terraced podium boasting more than 3,700 m2 of public space, hotel and commercial space on more than 2 ha. FIRST RESIDENTIAL SKYSCRAPER IN NYC’S KOREATOWN ENVISIONED With efforts to preserve the buildings at 316 Fifth Avenue in New York City’s (NYC) Koreatown failing, Cottonwood Development hopes to build a 39-story, 539-ft.-tall residential building designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) at the site, New York YIMBY reports. Numerous towers of at least that scope have been recently completed or are under construction in NoMad (north of Madison Square Park) a few blocks to the south, but this would be the first residential skyscraper in Koreatown. The plan includes 6,809-sq.-ft. of retail on the first two floors, mechanical components on the third through seventh floors and full-floor residential units starting on the eighth floor. The 33rd through 36th floors would house a pair of duplex penthouses. RESIDENTIAL TOWER WOULD REPLACE 1990s OFFICES IN CARDIFF Ropemaker Properties hopes to build a 25-story residential tower with retail and office space on the site of Landore Court, a block of 1990s office properties on Charles Street in Cardiff, U.K., WalesOnline reports. Ropemaker is carrying on earlier plans by previous property owner Garrison Barclay Estates, which intended to build 270 apartments and 15,000 sq. ft. of office space in a tower designed by Cardiff-based John Wotton Architects. The plan also includes basement parking for 80 cars. With Landore Court still housing tenants with short-term leases, development is not likely to get started until 2020, subject to planning approval.
