William Brockmann (Brock) Long, is the current FEMA Administrator has more than 15 years of experience in Homeland Security specializing in emergency response operations planning, business continuity, evacuation, and school and University safety.

Before moving into his role at FEMA Mr. Long is the Executive Vice President of Hagerty Consulting, a comprehensive Homeland Security and Emergency Management firm. He provides strategic direction and leadership for all preparedness and recovery programs, works with prospective clients to understand and solve challenges, offers executive support and subject matter expertise for select projects, and continues to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in the emergency management community.

Mr. Long was appointed by Governor Bob Riley to direct the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. In this role, Mr. Long served as the State Coordinating Officer for 14 disasters, including 8 Presidential and 6 State declared events. After the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig Incident (i.e., BP Oil Spill), Mr. Long served as the on-scene incident commander for the State of Alabama Unified Command. Mr. Long also executed the State’s response to H1N1, and testified before the U. S. Congress regarding response and recovery for catastrophic events.

Previously, Mr. Long served as the FEMA RIV National Hurricane Program Manager and as a school safety coordinator for the State of Georgia. His opinion has been sought by CNN, Fox, Associated Press, and the Weather Channel. In 2012, he was called upon by the French High Council on Civil Defense to provide evacuation best practices for the city of Paris and other large urban communities.
