Some people resist true peace because achieving it requires offering it to others as well. You can’t expect peace if you react with toxicity. While your emotions are always valid—anger, jealousy, pain—your responses to these emotions matter too. For example, anger is valid, but yelling isn’t; jealousy is valid, but judging others isn’t; pain is valid, but resorting to drugs or alcohol isn’t; missing someone is valid, but returning to a harmful situation isn’t. True peace isn’t something that can be enforced. It’s achieved through understanding that it’s not what happens to us but how we choose to respond that counts.
