We are now at our last chapter of the God’s Money Rules series. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have making it. I have learnt heaps from doing it, so I hope you have too.

Prov 16:20

Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,
and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.

In Proverbs, gaining wisdom is second in place of righteousness. God wants us to have faith, He then wants us to gain wisdom and knowledge to live out what He promises us.

What do we need to know when gaining wisdom?

1. Know that God is in control.

Prov 16:16-1

We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer.

You may think you have it all planned out, but God will always be there to show you the way and what He wants for you.

2. Having wisdom allows you to watch the market and look out for the future.

Prov 14:18

The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Be prudent. To be prudent means you look and prepare for the future and you have knowledge and wisdom to see what might happen ahead.

Sometimes to look forwards we need to look back in history, see what’s happened, and it will give us an idea of what might happen in the future.

Know your markets and what affects them and how will that affect your business; prepare for that.

3. Having wisdom and knowledge stops you from making mistakes.

Prov 19:2

Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.

4. Means you can then be a mentor to others.

What are some of the results if we seek wisdom?

Prov 8:18

With me are riches and honour, enduring wealth and prosperity.

How to get wisdom:

1. Read the word.
2. Be forever teachable and always seek to learn – Be open to criticism and follow discipline.

Prov 12:1

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but whoever hates correction is stupid.

Prov 13:18

Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame,
but whoever heeds correction is honoured.

The day I realised I didn’t know it all and wasn’t perfect, was the day my life changed. My eyes opened to the wisdom around me; I became open to the fact that through every opportunity and life circumstance there is always a lesson to learn.

To gain knowledge you actually need to be disciplined – disciplined to sit down for a time each week or day to read a book and learn. To keep self-improving, it takes a lot of effort, but if you’re hungry you will go and find it.

3. Ask questions from other business owners and surround yourself with them or people who are doing the same thing you are.

Surround yourself with good, wise people.

Prov 13:20

Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm.

4. Gain Mentors and Advisors.

Proverbs 11:14

For lack of guidance a nation falls,
but victory is won through many advisers.

Go out and find people that can help you in what you are trying to achieve. Some may be be paid mentors and some may be free. But go out and find them, pick their brain. I can assure you if you find a good one they will help you move forward, help you to get your money back by how much they charge, and push you to do things that are out of your comfort zone.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask and ask BIG G.

We can ask Him via prayer, reading His word. Ask Him to open your eyes and see the market, teach you what it is that you need to learn and ask Him to guide you.

Prov 3

Wisdom Bestows Well-Being

3 My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
² for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.

³ Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
⁴ Then you will win favour and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

⁵ Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
⁶ in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
⁸ This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

⁹ Honour the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
¹⁰ then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

¹¹ My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
¹² because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.

¹³ Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
¹⁴ for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
¹⁶ Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honour.
¹⁷ Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.

¹⁹ By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;
²⁰ by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew.

²¹ My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
preserve sound judgment and discretion;
²² they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
²³ Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble.
²⁴ When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
²⁵ Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
²⁶ for the Lord will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.

²⁷ Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act.
²⁸ Do not say to your neighbour,
“Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—
when you already have it with you.
²⁹ Do not plot harm against your neighbour,
who lives trustfully near you.
³⁰ Do not accuse anyone for no reason—
when they have done you no harm.

³¹ Do not envy the violent
or choose any of their ways.

³² For the Lord detests the perverse
but takes the upright into his confidence.
³³ The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.
³⁴ He mocks proud mockers
but shows favour to the humble and oppressed.
³⁵ The wise inherit honour,
but fools get only shame.
