Discussions about energy efficiency often revolve around its ability to lower energy consumption, lower energy expenditures, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, but in many emerging economies, the focus is first on economic growth and poverty alleviation. This panel will look at the opportunities and challenges in shifting the energy efficiency discussion to how it can deliver more goods and services efficiently while also bringing greater prosperity and ensuring sustainability. The CSIS Energy & National Security Program is pleased to host Philippe Benoit, former head of Energy Efficiency and Environment Division of the International Energy Agency, to discuss some of the benefits and pitfalls in shifting the focus of energy efficiency from savings to growth. Ariel Yépez, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), will discuss how the IDB is working to increase the appeal of energy efficiency as a development tool for its client countries by also emphasizing its potential to support expanded service delivery. Laura Van Wie McGrory, Alliance to Save Energy, will discuss how energy efficiency also brings important benefits other than just energy savings to the U.S. and other developed countries. Please RSVP no later than Wednesday, June 28th. This event is made possible by general funding to CSIS and the Energy & National Security Program
