In episode 66, we're discussing The Handmaid's Tale, both Margaret Atwood's novel and the recent Hulu adaptation. How does it function as an adaptation? How do the changes affect the message? And how can both of them do better?
Warning: Due to the nature of the book and show, some conversations may be triggering to listeners. We don't discuss sexual assault in detail, but we do touch on it during the course of the conversation. We also don't censor swearing.
Mistakes: The costume designer for The Handmaid's Tale is named Ane Crabtree, not Anne Crabtree. It turns out that reading a name from a URL and not the link itself is difficult. Also, Missy's point regarding how reproductive rights are important for everybody was clumsily worded—reproductive rights are important to people of all genders and sexualities, but some identities (essentially, anybody who is not a heterosexual cis white man) are more policed than others.
