Why do I look for fault in others? Matthew 7:3-5 I. Why do I do this? Titus 1 (15) Everything is wholesome to those who are themselves wholesome. But nothing is wholesome to those who are themselves unwholesome and who have no faith in God—their very minds and consciences are diseased. (J.B. Phillips) James 3 (14) But if in your heart you are jealous, bitter, and selfish, don't sin against the truth by boasting of your wisdom. (15) Such wisdom does not come down from heaven; it belongs to the world, it is unspiritual and demonic. (GNT) II. What could I do instead? "Focus on MY faults instead of those of others." James 4 (11) My brothers and sisters, do not assault each other with criticism. (VOICE) 1 Peter 2 (1) Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, of all deceit, hypocrisy and envy, and of all the ways there are of speaking against people; (CJB) Ephesians 4 (29) Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak]. (32) Be kind and helpful to one another, tender-hearted [compassionate, understanding], forgiving one another [readily and freely], just as God in Christ also forgave [a]you. (AMP)
