Mariquita talks about her new favorite non-fiction book, Brave Hearted: The Women of the American West. The book captures the voices and stories of so many women who participated in, were carried along by, and were impacted by Manifest Destiny and the American drive westward in the mid- to late-1880s. It’s a real heartbreaker and you won’t forget it soon.

After the short book review, Ashley interviews Roseanne Montillo about her book, Deliberate Cruelty. Their conversation includes how Ann Woodward and Truman Capote’s upbringing inspired their ambition, Roseanne’s research process (particularly during a pandemic), the allure of gossip, and parallels between the eras of the book and now.
