Filmmaker Shirley Clarke was born October 2, 1919. Her groundbreaking, atmospheric films - "Portrait of Jason," "The Cool World," and "The Connection," among others from the 1950s and '60s - are being shown digitally on the Criterion Channel, and theatrically at Film Forum all this month.
