"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” That’s from Joshua 24:15. This has become a slogan posted on placards in houses all around the world. But what does it mean to have a house which serves the Lord? Joshua is speaking to the tribes of Israel and reminding them of all the good things that the Lord had done for them thus far. He said that their fathers had served other gods, but he urged them to put those gods away and worship the Lord. The full verse says, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” So, Joshua is basically giving the “as long as you live under my roof” speech. Really, a house that serves the Lord isn’t going to be perfect, but those who dwell in that house should strive to please Him and respect his authority. We need to claim our houses for God. Pray that God helps you keep all evils away and if you have children, pray double hard for them. By keeping the Lord as master in our house, we will be stronger stewards to the rest of the world.
