Welcome back to For The Creators!

Today we sit down with DMOP a celebrity photographer who has shot the likes of Steph Curry, French Montana, Post Malone, Lil Uzi Vert, and has done campaigns for Adidas and Arsenal FC. We explore his journey into photography from the early era of Grime to today, shooting artists at Wireless Festival and catching their intimate moments behind the scenes.

If you're considering a career in photography or are considering picking up a new skill, even though you think its 'too late' - this episode is for you!

We discuss:

  • Who is DMOP?
  • Being around future grime stars and growing up in youth clubs
  • Taking photos but only being able to show them locally (no social media)
  • Growing up as a creative photographer without photo sharing apps/websites
  • Using a camcorder and grabbing classic footage
  • Dropping out of college and getting into retail
  • Putting the camera down
  • Going back to college, relearning photography, marketing as a mature student
  • Retraining later in life and ignoring the naysayers
  • Spotting Instagram early and seeing the potential
  • Learning new tools, new technology and post production
  • Why getting it 'right in camera' is more important than editing
  • What it was like relearning and resuming a career when so much had changed, and why that was a breakthrough for Delroy
  • What its like shooting celebs and why intimate pictures are completely different to paparazzi
  • The importance of having a creative process and respecting your craft
  • The ups and downs and working with celebrities
  • Working closely with Post Malone
  • The advances in technology changing the way people photograph, portrait mode on iPhones.
  • The rule of thirds, frames and composition
  • How social media has affected the way we experience photography
  • What its like getting 10 minutes to shoot an artist live at Wireless Festival and working quickly
  • When to use presets
  • The decline of print photography
  • Why preparation and thinking ahead is the best way to deal with challenges
  • Advice to up and coming photographers
  • The business behind photography
