Forklift battery repair is an opportunity to reduce your forklift's operating expenses. This is a benefit that all forklift owners can take advantage of. Considering the typical forklift battery is disposed of years before the end of its useful life. This is something that should motivate all forklift owners to implement a forklift battery repair program.
The typical forklift powered by an electric motor uses a flooded deep cycle lead acid battery. These batteries are far from cheap, and having the ability to restore them to new condition offers incredible savings. You may be wondering why you haven't heard of forklift battery repair before. Well consider this, do you think your battery manufacturer and local dealer would rather you buy new ones or be taught how to repair your existing batteries?
Sulfation is one of the main causes of decreased battery capacity. Most of us don't know that sulfation exists or that this condition can be reversed. Sulfation is a condition that will occur with all lead acid batteries. The amount of sulfation is directly related to the age of the batteries and how well they are cared for on a regular basis. Reversing the negative effects of sulfation is an important part of forklift battery repair.
The reason sulfation is detrimental to the batteries' ability to provide useful power is due to its chemical nature. Sulfation is an unusable deposit that occurs on lead plates, effectively reducing the surface area available for a chemical reaction. Until this condition is reversed or eliminated, the battery will perform at a limited capacity.
Unfortunately, we live in a throwaway society, and this mentality often applies to batteries as well. Educating those responsible for the maintenance of your forklift batteries is the key component to obtaining maximum battery life. Proper maintenance schedule and repairing your forklift batteries as needed will ensure your batteries are used to their fullest. Minimize your forklift operating costs and minimize any forklift downtime as a result of reduced capacity batteries.
