Questions for reflection. (not intended to be a sermon outline) You are encouraged to use these as part of a study/devotional/reflection time through the coming week. You are also encouraged to participate in the Explore Class after worship where we will use these as a discussion starter. 1. How serious, or to what extent, was the fall into sin by Adam and Eve? What impact? What effects are with us today? 2. What can a person do to overcome the effects of the fall? 3. In John 3:1-8, Nicodemus was confused by being told he must be born again. Is how God works confusing? Why? 4. What resistance do you have to hearing this message of the extent of the fall today? What problems does this truth create for you? 5. John Calvin spoke of the affect of Original Sin being that we are not totally evil, but totally affected. What does that mean? What does that mean for you? 6. Why is freewill appealing to people? Why might we resist not being in control and having ability to contribute to saving ourselves? 7. How can faith be a gift of God? (Eph 2:8) 8. This is a rather depressing statement and state to begin Lent with! Is the starting point important? Why? What might be valuable in having this as a starting point in understanding the work of Christ on the Cross? 9. How might you personalize the nail you carry through Lent?
