What is Thai Yoga Bodywork? (click here to see what it looks like)

Thai Yoga Bodywork is based on an ancient style of massage and bodywork still done in Thailand today. In Thailand, massage is a very broad field including massage and chiropractic manipulations. The Thai Yoga Bodywork I provide does not include “adjustments” like chiropractic, but it does use compressions, joint mobilization, and gentle stretches to relax the receiver, release tension, relieve aches and pains, and increase flow of energy throughout the body.

During a Thai Yoga session, the client lies or sits on a mat on the floor, wearing loose, comfortable clothes, to receive the work. The practitioner gently moves the client through a series of yoga like stretches, while the client rests in a completely relaxed state. Compressions are applied with hands, feet, knees, fingers, thumbs, and toes to loosen tight muscles and increase circulation.

This style of massage truly works the mind, body, and spirit! It will leave you feeling positively energized and completely relaxed.

What is Integrative Therapeutic Massage?

Integrative Therapeutic Massage uses traditional Swedish Massage as its base, but builds upon it by including other modalities such as deep tissue, reflexology, cranio-sacral techniques and others to best serve the needs of the client. I assess these needs with the client before the session begins in addition to while I’m working to provide a therapeutic, personalized massage to meet the needs of expressed by each individual.

What is Swedish Massage vs. Deep Tissue?

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines an array of strokes such as gliding, rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body release tension and improve its circulation. Generally, it has a hypnotically relaxing flow. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.

Deep tissue work is generally done when a person has a specific problem area, especially a point of chronic tension causing pain or discomfort and reduced movement. It is applied with slow, deep-penetrating strokes to relieve deep seated tension. Often times, range of motion techniques and trigger point release methods are used to release problematic muscles.

It is rare that a person will need (or want to experience) a full body deep tissue. Many of the clients I see have a particular problem area they would like relief from, but also simply want to relax, requiring a variety of techniques. That is why I do not differentiate a separate price for these. I simply provide what I call Integrative Therapeutic Massage. Every body is different, and therefore every session is different- a completely personalized massage experience!
