Today on the Friends in Beauty Podcast I welcome Mel The Barber to the Friends in Beauty guest chair. Mel is a barber based in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area who just so happens to cut people’s hair that has a lot of money a.k.a celebrities. With 8 years in the game…an insane list of over 200 celebrity clients…a booming business it’s clear how Mel has solidified his spot as one of the best in the game.

Born and raised in SC, working unfulfilling jobs, and experiencing homelessness Mel ultimately followed his mother’s advice and enrolled in barber school and the rest has literally been history in the making.

In this interview Mel shares:

-All about his recent billboard in Times Square and how he’s gearing up to host the largest international hair expo

-How he cut his first celebrity client while he was still in barber school that cause a ripple effect of other celeb clientele

-How he messed up a NBA player’s haircut so bad that he blocked him on IG

-How the power of building relationships has led to his success

-How to use your social media content to paint a relatable story and so much more

I really enjoyed having this chat with Mel. I met him a couple of weeks ago when I did makeup for his fiancé’s brand shoot and he has such a contagious energy and presence about him. His story is so inspirational, he keeps is real, and offers great advice to upcoming barbers that all of us #FriendsinBeauty can relate to.

This is an episode that you’ll want to listen to more than once and take some notes. Be sure to tune in on YouTube if you prefer to watch the interview.
