Gab & Jam Episode 77 Tips for Writing Lyrics Video Description This episode is a part of our Blog-vember 2019 trifecta of three posts a day—a video, a podcast, and a blog post. This year the focus is tips for the D.I.Y. Rock Star. We developed these methods through our own decades worth of experiences. We’re happy to offer some ways that we have dealt with a variety of things and share what has helped us move forward in joy and with peace of mind. If these strategies help you, then we are happy. The words provide a cultural connection by telling a story or making a statement. You want to clever, but not too clever. You want to be relatable, but not too trite. Also, the lyrics needs to fit the melody of the song. All this CAN make them difficult to write. • Keep your phone/computer/device nearby (to capture ideas). • Use tools like thesaurus and writing dictionary to aid in your writing. • Keep a running list of titles, bits of texts, dialogue (which can be the kernel of an idea). • Collaborate to help move your process along. • Re-write when you find better ideas.
