GC #78: Game of Thrones’ “The Bells” and “The Iron Throne” Series Finale

On the latest Geek Confidential podcast Luke Kerr Melodie Aikels, Dan Pearce and Mo Walker take a deep dive into the final two episodes of Game of Thrones " The Bells" and "The Iron Throne."

Many Game of Thrones fans were upset over Dany's pivot to the dark side in "The Bells." The hosts react to her epic burning of Kings Landing. What was the point of The Golden Company? Why was Arya in Kings Landing at all? Did Cersei Lannister get an ending worthy of her villainy? Was Clegane Bowl everything fans had demanded? Did Game of Thrones sacrifice substance for cinematography?

At times "The Iron Throne" seemed to plod and at other times it seemed rushed. The GC crew dissect Jon killing Dany. Can Drogon get an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor ina CGI category? The Lords and ladies of Winteros plot their future, but why was Jon's heritage as a Targaryen never brought up? Melodie goes off on Brienne giving Jaime a pass. Luke shares his own head cannon for how pivotal scenes could have been tweaked. No one is happy with Bran the Broken being chosen as king. The character was missing for an entire season!

Game of Thrones ends with Bran as king of the six kingdoms. Sansa is crowned Queen of the North. Arya sets sail to explore uncharted lands. Jon rides north of The Wall and into our memories.

The episode wraps with final thoughts and the GC gang choosing their all-time favorite Game of Thrones episode.
