We weren’t always vegans or activists. Then one day it made sense to stop eating animals. Then, later on, we decided to use our collective skills and knowledge to promote vegetarianism to reduce animal suffering.
That’s what we like about the New Year. It gives us an opportunity and a big, symbolic, in-your-face reminder to think about last year and look forward to the new year, and think about what we’d like to do differently. New year, new leaf.
With that in mind, we’re happy to share part of a presentation we held recently with our local vegetarian organization, Bay Area Vegetarians.

Our presenters included:
Tammy Lee, Bay Area Vegetarians’ President/co-founder and List Owner for SFBAVEG, has been doing veg outreach and advocacy for animals since 1990. She’s written letters, held protest signs, leafleted, and marched, but tabling is her favorite form of advocacy. She’ll share her favorite techniques, tips, and strategies for successful tabling.
Suzanne Haws has been active in Vegan Outreach’s Adopt-A-College program for over a year. As one of the leading participants in the nationide program, and ranked #2 in California, she’s visited nearly 30 college campuses and handed out over 20,000 anti-factory-farming leaflets directly to students.
Nora Kramer is an experienced and passionate advocate for animals. She volunteers with the Empathy Project and does humane education presentations at local schools and runs the BAARN list, Bay Area Animal Rights Network. Nora was also voted, by her peers and the local community, as “Favorite Local Activist” in the BEST OF VEG 2005 survey.
Part II – Activist Rights for Animal Rights – will be covered in a future show.
