Do you have an invincible it-can't-happen-to-me-mindset? Money, age and gender don't preclude us from having any of the 5 silent killers that have no symptoms.

Christine Horner, M.D., FACS, is a nationally known surgeon, author and professional speaker and holds two board certifications: the National Board of Surgery and the National Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Horner was recognized as a leader in her field shortly after starting her plastic and reconstructive surgery practice because she successfully ran a national campaign to pass laws requiring insurance companies to pay for breast reconstruction following mastectomy. Her five-year crusade with the Breast Reconstruction Advocacy Project (BRA Project) led to the passage of an unprecedented federal law that was signed by President Bill Clinton in 1998, requiring insurance companies to pay for this specific surgical procedure. Horner is the award-winning author of, “Waking The Warrior Goddess: Dr. Christine Horner's Program to Protect Against and Fight Breast Cancer,” (3rd Edition) and her award-winning book, “Radiant Health, Ageless Beauty,” (Elgea Publishing, 2016).

Some diseases can really creep up on you, the scariest of which have no symptoms

Here are the 5 silent killers Dr Horner discusses:

1: High Blood Pressure Nearly half the population is oblivious to the fact that they have high blood pressure according to a study published in JAMA.

2. Sleep Apnea:

Here’s a startling statistic: sleep apnea not a fat guy issue.

It affects up to half of all women between the ages of 20-70.

Symptoms include morning headaches, mood disturbances and low-lying fatigue and have

been linked to heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. According to the Mayo Clinic, only

10 percent of sleep apnea sufferers are diagnosed and treated.

3. HPV 79 million Americans have human papillomavirus or HPV, the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States, but few people know they have it, which might explain why another 14 million people will get infected each year. Not only are there no symptoms, there is no simple test for HPV and the only people who typically get screened are women during a pap

The good news is, your body can rid itself of HPV if the immune system is strong.

4. Pancreatic Cancer.

A study found that drinking two or more colas a week almost doubles a person’s risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Considered one of the deadliest forms of cancer, pancreatic cancer may not surface with symptoms of jaundice, upper abdominal pain and rapid weight loss until it’s in its advanced stages. More than 55,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year and of those more than 44,000 will die.

5. Diabetes Alarmingly, this disease can go undiagnosed for quite some time, which may explain why 7.2 million Americans are undiagnosed and unaware they have diabetes. You may think excessive thirst, frequent urination and irritability are all par for the course of a hectic lifestyle but these little warning signs may be putting you in the group of 30.3 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes
