The looking glass self is a term used by Charles H. Cooley he believed that we develop our self image through the cues we receive from others and there are 3 components to the looking glass self. Also, if you are interested in reading more about these concepts, the book I am referencing is called Exploring Sociology, a Canadian Perspective, by Bruce Ravelli and Michelle Webber.
