Did your parents tell you "children should be seen and not heard"? That girls need to be nice and polite? Not to be "bossy"? Like me you might repeat some of those phrases and catch yourself. How do we support those children to find and keep their their voice? How do we hold ourselves back from being seen and heard in the workplace? What can we do to grow in and beyond the literal voice?

This week I chat with the deeply experienced voice coach and advocate Lucy Cornell who supports us in speaking up. Lucy Cornell is the Founder and CEO of the Cornell Voice Advisory, a global specialist on the speaking voice for business leaders.

Some key takeaways:

The cultural context you operate in impacts the inclusion of diverse voices

Start early - even when whining, give our kids a chance and platform to speak Be clear on our intention for wanting a voice in a given moment

Know what your flame is to want to speak - if you are passionate your voice is much more likely to be heard Jump in and stay present to take responsibility for what you have said

This is a great episode to share with teams in your workplace. Let me know what resonates. Enjoy this free resource from Lucy 'Give girls a voice' Daughters - Lucy Cornell.pdf
