Jesus is giving final instructions to his disciples. He reminds them that his whole mission as the Messiah, the Son of God, is the fulfillment of God’s promises going all the way back to the Old Testament witness of the Law of Moses, the prophets and the psalms (Luke 24:44). God has made a threefold promise. The first part of that promise is that evil, which originally appeared in the form of a serpent, will be destroyed (Genesis 3:14-15; Revelation 20:1-2). The second is that through Christ God will forgive sins. The third is that the world will have a new beginning through the power of the Holy Spirit. The disciples will be empowered to take this incredible, but true message to all the nations of the world. That mission applies also to every one of us who confesses Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Text: Luke 24:44-49)
