Jesus confronts the power of Satan and the demonic throughout the Gospel of Luke. These forces represent the reality of evil. The problem of evil is the most difficult issue we humans face. The basic question is, if God is almighty and all good, how can evil exist? We need to recognize that evil is a cosmic problem, one we do not fully understand. Evil often presents itself in deceitful ways. How is it that a demon possessed man is in the synagogue on the Sabbath? How did it get in? Evil represents the darkness, spiritually and morally, that is opposed to God’s light (Gen. 1:1-3; John 1:1-5). Jesus is ushering the kingdom of God which defeats Satan and his demons. In the conflicts of this world we are assured of the victory of Jesus Christ and his Word (Luke 4:34). (Text: )
