This week on the Green Rush podcast, Anne and Lewis sit down with Super Bowl champion defensive end Marvin Washington. After spending 11 years in the NFL terrorizing opposing quarterbacks, Marvin has since shifted his career towards the legal cannabis industry and is now the spokesman for Isodiol International Inc., a leading manufacturer of CBD-focused consumer products. In their conversation, Marvin discusses his experience with cannabis in the NFL and how medicinal cannabis can help those suffering with pain in addition to those struggling with addiction. Marvin also touches on the issue of minority representation within the cannabis space and his recent lawsuit against the Department of Justice and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
3 main takeaways:
- Cannabis is likely to be a point of contention in the next NFL/NFLPA collective bargaining discussions in 2021
- Medicinal cannabis could be a game changer for athletes that are wary of overuse of opiates and looking to for pain relief
- Social justice issues must be part of the cannabis legalization conversation
Marvin Washington is a retired NFL player who played a total of 11 years with three teams: the New York Jets, Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. An advocate for all-natural, non-habit forming cannabis, Washington is speaking out on the topic of using cannabinoids as neuroprotectants as well as an avenue to alleviate the nation’s #1 health epidemic: prescription opioid abuse and addiction. He has also lobbied the NFL Players Association to push for changes in the sport’s drug policies. Washington is a graduate of Idaho University and a 2004 inductee into the University of Idaho Vandal Sports Hall of Fame.
After football Washington worked for William Small Wealth Management Group as a Financial Advisor.
