One union is calling for New Zealand's current proposal to increase sick leave to be doubled.
The FIRST Union, which represents private-sector trades, believes sick leave entitlement should be be extended to 20 days in order to combat Covid-19.
It's been submitting on changes to the Holidays Act, which will currently see sick leave double from five days to 10 days leave for all businesses.
FIRST Union spokesperson Ben Peterson told Heather du Plessis-Allan 10 days isn't enough to ensure community safety in a pandemic.
"When you go to the supermarket, you want to know that when you pick up a coleslaw, that no one's been coughing in it."
He says it's an important step after the lessons we've learnt from Covid-19.
