Chris Sorenson hosts the “Mission of the Week” segment, with guest Rick Martin from Shelter From The Storm Ministries

In October of 2011, several individuals in the community were informed that over 80 homeless children were registered in the Sun Prairie School District. In January of 2012, a committee was formed and gathered weekly to address this need in the community. From that committee, Shelter From The Storm Ministries was formed. SFTSM is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit Christian ministry organization made up of various religious affiliations who have come together to address the problem of homelessness for single moms and their children. Through generous donations and community support, the organization purchased a building that can house up to eleven families. Each family has their own unit, with a kitchenette and bathroom. The property is managed by a few full-time employees and a team of amazing volunteers from the community who teach classes and maintain the grounds. If you want to get involved, check out the link in the resources section of this episode!

Chris Reese hosts the “My Move” segment with guest Mike Lenzendorf

If you move to a new city, the best way to find all the great spots is to ask a local. The “My Move” segment brings those conversations to you! Today, Chris Reese asks Mike Lenzendorf to share a few of his favorite places around the city. Mike and his family moved to the area six years ago after he took a job with American Family Insurance. After growing up on a farm, Mike said he likes the feeling of being in a big city but loves the small-town community dynamic that Madison has to offer. If you are in the area, Mike recommends checking out the hiking trails along the lakes, as well as the variety of local festivals. If food is on your list, and let’s be honest, it should be...he recommends stopping by The Old Fashion, or Brother’s Three Bar and Grill. Madison is also home to several outstanding breweries, including Rockhound Karben4 and the Spotted Cow.

There is something for everyone at the Madison Children’s Museum!

Located just off downtown Madison’s capitol square, The Madison Children’s Museum is three full floors of award-winning fun for kids ages 0 to 12. All of the museum programs and exhibits are designed to foster healthy growth, development, learning, trying something unfamiliar, and, well, just having fun! When you have seen everything inside, head up to the roof to explore the great outdoors in the heart of downtown Madison. See how the seasons affect the pond and green space, meet the famous rooftop chickens and free-flying homing pigeons, and scale the Acorn Climber. Make sure you get a bird’s eye view of the city from the Crow’s Nest! While visiting the museum as a family is always fun, they also offer many programs and activities created just for grown-ups! Check out their website for more information!
