UPDATE: The areas around Animas River here in New Mexico and up in Colorado have just had State of Emergency declared due to a huge environmental spill caused by the EPA. The small towns near that river all depend on it for their water supplies, which are completely contaminated and unusable. These sorts of events are what we’re looking at being prepared for in this podcast episode. CNN News Link for the Animas River EPA incident

FEMA says that you should have enough food and water on hand for 3 days

- Your disaster supplies kit should contain essential food, water, and supplies for at least three days.
- 1800-2200 calories per person per day
- Minimum of 1 gallon of water per person, 2-3 recommended
- Water heaters are a great source of water in an emergency
