Work smarter, not harder — sometimes, it’s easier said than done but in many ways, that’s what champions and athletes do. Yet, what does it even mean to be a champion, and how can you get there? Dana Cavalea breaks it down for us.

Dana is the former Director of Strength & Conditioning / Performance Enhancement Coach for the New York Yankees, where he led the team to a World Championship in 2009. He is also the recipient of the 2009 MLB Nolan Ryan Award, given to MLB’s top strength coach as voted by his peers. Dana has not only coached the greats such as Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, he also works with top CEOs, executives, and other high performers.

What makes you a champion is everything that happens before you’re holding up that trophy, but that only happens if you’re doing what you’re meant to do. But how do you know if you’re doing the right things and are on the right track? Go with your gut and trust your instinct! Dana explains what it means to work smarter, not harder and why it’s so important not to occupy yourself with busy-work as much as it is to be intentional. He shares some of his strategies to slow down, get to a more balanced place and manage the expectation of winning, at your own pace.
