Nobody teaches us how to actually feel an emotion in our body.

We resist it, we avoid it, we react to it by overeating, drinking alcohol, taking drugs, spending money or other means of escape.

We think if we're feeling an uncomfortable emotion like disappointment, guilt, or shame that something has gone wrong and we need to "fix" it.

But there's nothing to fix. Uncomfortable emotions are part of being human.

Once you can accept this and learn to process your emotions in a healthy way, you'll become so much more calm.

An emotion is simply a sensation in your body, similar to hunger or thirst and they usually only last about 30 seconds.

But since we think we need to "fix" the emotion, we keep going over the thoughts that caused it in the first place, causing it to occur over and over again.
