Today on the podcast, we're joined by Dean Anderson, Founder and CEO of Kernel (and our boss!). Kernel Wealth is an index fund manager and investment platform that helps Kiwis grow their savings over the long-term.
Previous to founding Kernel, Dean held roles in the financial services industry, notably as Head of Product at Smartshares and a Data Analyst at the NZX. He's a self proclaimer Mainlander, currently residing in Auckland with his partner Nigel and fur-baby Cooper.

Dean has a wide range of experience as an investor, starting his journey with shares and investment property through to raising capital to start a company in a highly regulated industry.
In this episode, we chat to Dean about:

  • Dean's relationship with money and how this evolved over time
  • How investing in property kickstarted his financial journey
  • Quitting your full time job to start a company
  • The process of starting and funding Kernel, a highly regulated financial services company
  • How he raised capital to fund the launch and growth of Kernel...without yet having a product
  • Going through multiple capital rounds
  • How business owners navigate diversification when they're so invested in one asset (the business)
  • Whether the dream of running a company is all that it's cracked up to be
  • What keeps Dean up at night (hint it has to do with Kernel)

...and lots more where that came from!
