As a firefighter, Kristen has been called on cardiac cases often in her career. She discusses some non “classic” cardiac symptoms that she has seen in women such as abdominal pain or back pain. Some of the cardiac patients have had several symptoms presented and others had just one symptom. Her advice is to know your body and to trust yourself and call 911 if you don’t feel right. Kristen also discusses the training she went through to become a fighter and shares the advice she gives to young women who want to pursue firefighting as a career. Kristen Hammersmith is a firefighter in Washington, an avid fisherman, wife and mother of four.
