We often don't appreciate what we have until it's gone, and currently it is teachers who are under-appreciated, undervalued and are leaving the classroom in droves.
Over 300,000 teachers left their jobs in the US between March 2020 and August 2022 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s 2,380 per week!
And Debbie was one of them.
Debbie has been teaching English as a Second Language for the past 30 years. Last year, she left her full time job of 12 years at a middle school.
And not because she had fallen out of love with teaching. Quite the opposite.
She decided to leave full time employment because the administration was not supportive and did not respect teachers; state testing has become overwhelming and the students are increasingly seen as data and numbers, and the workload has become untenable.
Worst of all … actually teaching has become just the tip of the iceberg for teachers like Debbie, making up just a tiny portion of her day to day responsibilities…
And that was before COVID 19.
Debbie left her school with great sadness, but she didn’t want to leave teaching. She loves teaching. Teaching has always been her passion … and it continues to be.
Debbie has now started her own teaching business specializing in helping Italian speakers with their English communication and pronunciation, and has begun working with 23 new clients in just the past year alone.
Now, with growing confidence as a Teacher-Entrepreneur, she has increased her rate to $100 an hour and will soon be launching group sessions.
