Your Daily Prayer đ Daniel 6:22
Todayâs daily devotional is based on the story of Daniel and the lionsâ den. King Darius of the Medes valued Danielâs wisdom and integrity, but other leaders grew jealous of Daniel's influence. To trap him, they convinced the king to decree that no one could pray to any god or man except Darius for 30 days. Despite this law, Daniel continued his daily prayers to God. As a result, he was thrown into the lionsâ den, but God miraculously saved him, leading King Darius to proclaim God's greatness throughout the land.
STORY
Bible in a Year: Daniel and the Lions Den
Scripture
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
Daniel 6:22
Have you ever felt pressured to compromise your beliefs?
Daniel faced this challenge head-on when a decree was made that no one could pray to any god or man except King Darius for 30 days. Despite knowing the consequences, Daniel remained steadfast in his faith, continuing his practice of praying three times a day.
How do you respond when your faith is tested?
Danielâs unwavering devotion led to his enemiesâ plot being executedâthey reported him to the king, and Daniel was thrown into a den of hungry lions. But God did not abandon Daniel. He sent an angel to shut the lionsâ mouths, and Daniel emerged unscathed. This miraculous event demonstrated Godâs power and faithfulness to those who trust in Him.
Have you experienced a time when God delivered you from a difficult situation?
King Darius, witnessing this miracle, declared Godâs greatness and issued a decree that everyone in his kingdom should honor Danielâs God. Daniel's faithfulness not only saved him but also led to a powerful testimony of God's sovereignty. In our lives, standing firm in our faith, even when faced with adversity, can lead others to see the power and goodness of God.
What steps can you take today to strengthen your faith and trust in God's protection?
REFLECTION
Reflect on your faith and commitment to God, especially when facing pressure or threats. Are there areas where you find it challenging to stay true to your beliefs? Seek Godâs strength and courage to stand firm in your faith, just as Daniel did.
This week, make it a point to pray consistently and trust in God's protection. Remember that your faithfulness can be a powerful witness to those around you.
We must depend on prayer because our mission depends on miracles. Prayer is not preparation for the battle. It is the battle.
PRAYER
âMy God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.â
DANIEL 6:22
Thank You Lord for giving me divine favor, thank You for increasing my favor amongst men and women. When others plot my downfall because of my divine favor and blessing, I thank You that Youâve already prepared a way for me. In the moments I find myself in a pit with the lions of fear, doubt, and uncertainty - like Daniel in today's reading - I will pray and then watch as You shut their mouths. Because of Your goodness whoever desired to see my downfall will instead be introduced to Your saving grace and protection towards Your children. Because I'm Yours, I will use my redemption and elevation to bring praise, honor and glory to Your Name! You are the God that protects and this truth will never change! In Jesusâ Name, Amen.
