The Boys in the Band is an iconic play that helped shape the modern gay movement. Originally produced in 1968, The Boys in the Band was heavily criticized by the gay community for being stereotypical and "mean", but 50 years later, after a star-studded Broadway revival, it's interesting to observe just how much (and how little) has changed when it comes to gay culture. Toto Too Theatre is mounting this play in Ottawa and Shaun Toohey plays Michael and he's also co-directing it with Jim McNabb. Listen to our conversation to hear why Shaun thinks this play is so important, funny and heart-felt. He also dishes on why Jesse is the perfect actor to play Larry! Don't miss The Boys in the Band running Oct. 9-19, 2019 at The Gladstone Theatre. Buy tickets at thegladstone.ca!
